About Right Now
Right Now is a volunteer, not-for-profit media organisation led by young people focused on human rights issues in Australia. Right Now is committed to covering human rights issues through free, accessible, creative and engaging online, print and radio media. Its members believe that creating a positive, rights-respecting culture in Australia begins with the flow of information.
Aims
Right Now aims to broaden the human rights conversation in Australia to include the diverse voices and experiences of our communities. Right Now aims to promote awareness by making “human rights talk” engaging, inclusive, relevant and equitable.
In achieving these aims, Right Now utilises the power of creative work that responds to human rights issues, whether it be visual art, music, film or creative writing. By doing so, Right Now seeks to move beyond academic and legal analysis and become more engaging and accessible.
Vision
Right Now believes that Australians care passionately about human rights, and envisages a media that allows for the expression of that passion. The way everyday people access information and understand the world is constantly changing and evolving, and it is time that human rights defenders harnessed the potential of those developments. Right Now’s vision is not to be an authoritative voice telling people what their rights are, but to be a space in which a community of voices can be heard.
